Nach einigen psychologischen Emotionstheorien, wie z.B. der Zwei-Faktoren-Theorie von Sachter und Singer, werden jedoch kontextuelle Informationen vom Menschen verwendet, um die gefühlte Emotion nach dem körperlichen Ausdruck zu bestimmen. Daher schlagen wir in unserer umfassenderen Anwendung vor, dieses Verhalten zu reproduzieren, indem wir Emotionen aus Ausdrucksdaten vorhersagen und sie in einem zweiten Schritt durch Kontextinformationen abwägen. EmOCA wird verwendet, um dimensionale Emotionen zu kontextualisieren und sie für die menschliche Lesbarkeit zu kategorisieren.
