EuroVoc users include the European Union institutions, the EU Publications Office, national and regional parliaments in Europe, as well as national governments and private users worldwide. The terms, which cover a wide range of subject areas, are categorised under 21 main groups and 127 subgroups, without differentiating between the individual entities. EuroVoc is managed by the Publications Office of the European Union and operated as an ontology-based thesaurus management system using semantic web technologies and a range of user options. It is a multilingual, multidisciplinary thesaurus. It contains terms in 24 EU languages (Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese , Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Hungarian) and three languages spoken in countries that are candidates for EU membership: Albanian, Macedonian and Serbian.
