(P724)?Digest: | The CAMSIS scales developed by two scientists are currently used in 36 countries worldwide. The scale model attempts to make social stratification measurable by recording patterns of interaction between two people. To do this, the occupational information of two people (married couples, friends, family members) and the distance between their two occupations is evaluated. This is done using the ordering intervals of the CAMSIS scales. The requirement profiles of the national occupational classifications are matched to the Camsis scales.Like practically all other stratification measures, CAMSIS uses occupation as the basic unit because employment remains the most important mechanism through which material rewards are distributed, directly or indirectly. The term ‘occupation group’ is broadly defined and, in addition to occupation in the conventional sense, also includes differences in employment status (e.g. self-employed or supervisors). At the same time, it is possible (and common) to apply the scales on a gender-specific basis and to include other grouping bases such as ethnicity and education or qualifications (for people not in paid employment). |
