Basic information

(P34)?Naming:Historical Social Interaction and Stratification Scales | HISCAM
(P1266)?Abbreviation:
(P724)?Digest:HISCAM is a scale model derived from the modern CAMSIS for capturing social stratification from occupation information. The ‘Historical CAMSIS’ project offers scales that come from several national and temporal projects and process historical data resources from marriage registers, family histories and census records. They are used to analyse intergenerational patterns of professional social associations. The coding scheme was adapted to the HISCO occupation coding scheme. Data from seven countries for the period 1800–1938 were used: the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, France, Sweden, Canada and Belgium. The same estimation procedures were used as for the contemporary versions of the CAMSIS project. The main goal is to generate occupation-based stratification measures that are suitable for these countries and periods. The data is available in several data formats for full download and is described in several scientific papers. There are seven versions between the first publication in 2006 and the last publication in 2013.
