(P724)?Digest: | ‘Fields of Science and Technology (FOS)’ is a mandatory classification for organisations or offices that publish statistics on scientific and technical subjects. It was published by the OECD in 2002 and created out of the need to exchange data from research institutions on research results. In 2007, a second, revised version was published under the name “Revised Fields of Science and Technology”. The FOS defines six scientific fields (natural sciences, engineering and technology, medicine, agricultural sciences, social sciences and humanities) and is used by UNESCO and Eurostat, as well as in national derivatives. |
