(P724)?Digest:	The 1970/71 classification of occupations marked the end of a long development of the five-group classification system and the graduated hierarchy of occupations that had been published and further developed by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys in Great Britain since 1921. While initially hardly any occupations were documented, the methodological approach, the documentation of occupations and the structuring of hierarchies became increasingly refined and was finally also better documented. By 1970, some 24,000 standardised occupational titles were already listed and classified in a comprehensible manner. However, the proof of the profession and its classification was based more on the measurement of social prestige, although it actually recorded occupational classes. How the grouping of occupational groups was done was little documented. This also applied to the subsequent 1980 classification, which undertook many restructurings without concordance. The 1970 work, as well as numerous predecessor works, is available as a PDF and is scientifically described in beginnings. An in-depth development or publication as a data set has not yet taken place.
