(P1266)?Abbreviation: | — |
(P724)?Digest: | Based on the Classification of Occupations (KldB) 2010, the BAS-2 maps the prestige of occupational groups along the 2-digit occupation code of the Classification of Occupations (KldB), which is combined with the level of requirements (5th digit). The use of the scales can be useful in research fields such as educational research, career choice research, inequality research or status mobility research. Depending on how detailed occupations are recorded in data sets, researchers can use the BAS-2 or the related BAS-3. The scales are available in two variants: In variant 1, the prestige value of an occupation is determined as a simple arithmetic mean of all individual ratings for this occupation. Variant 2 uses a (cross-classified) multi-level model to estimate the occupational values. Details on the creation of the scales can be found in the associated publication, in particular the publication: Christian Ebner, Daniela Rohrbach Schmidt, 2022: Das gesellschaftliche Ansehen von Berufen - Konstruktion einer neuen beruflichen Ansehensskala und empirische Befunde für Deutschland. Journal of Sociology. The method can also be adapted for historical occupations using a combination of the Classification of Occupations 2010 (KldB) and the ontology of historical, German-language official and occupational designations. |
