| (P724)?Digest: | With the 1980 classification of occupations, the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS) in Great Britain created a new classification of occupations that contained only a few cross-concordances to the previous version of 1970. Unfortunately, the principles of the reclassification were not explained. In about seven per cent of cases, occupations were assigned to new class codes. The differences were therefore not entirely substantial, but they remained non-transparent. Furthermore, the reclassification was still based on social class formations, which only changed with the new classification approach in 1990 (SOC 1990). |
